Today, I learned a lot about complacency . Not mine (though I'll bet I'm guilty more than just occasionally). This time, it's the complacency of someone else, which makes it a lot easier to see.
In the business world, that "I've got it covered, don't worry" attitude sometimes goes along with being in an established company. You think you can squash the "bugs", the little guys…just flit them away simply because you are who you are, or because you work in the firm you do or because you have some money in the bank.
That's an underestimation organizations and individuals can live to regret. And, believe me, the penalty for being smug is usually directly proportional to the level of complacency. The more you are sure you don't have a problem, the more likely you are to be stunned.
